In 2012, co-founders of Design Tech Homes at MainStreet America, Barbara and Mike Feigin, began the mission to support the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI) at Texas Children’s Hospital. This endeavor started as a personal one for the Feigins who have two young nephews facing the day-to-day challenges of living with rare neurological disorders. Mike’s father, the late Dr. Ralph Feigin, considered the most important pediatrician of the past 25 years, was one of the great visionaries of the NRI. “As I was growing up, I saw first-hand my father’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others through a life of service and medicine,” said Mike Feigin. “Barbara and I wanted to keep his legacy alive by supporting the advancements of Texas Children’s Hospital.”

“As we began organizing the very first MainStreet America Gala, we quickly discovered that so many of our friends and business partners face the same challenges with children affected by debilitating neurological disorders,” said Barbara Feigin. “This made us realize the great need to support the NRI who is dedicated to finding cures for these children.”

The vision of the leaders at the NRI is to foster a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment that will facilitate fundamental discoveries in neuroscience with the ultimate goal of translating them to therapies for many incurable neurological and neurodegenerative conditions. Thanks to the support from generous donors in our community, we have celebrated amazing milestones and have raised a total of over $1,500,000 for the NRI from these events. There have been significant breakthroughs in neurological disorder research at the NRI, and so many more are being studied,”
